Can I use an external HD for my screensaver photos?

Question

Can I use an external HD for my screensaver photos?

Is it possible to use my external hard drive as the source of photos for the screensaver ?

I am running El Capitan 10.11.3, and have a Seagate BUP Slim.

Yes. Just click on the "+" button in the System/Desktop & Screensaver/Desktop preference pane, navigate to the external hard drive and select the folder with the image files you want to use.

what format is the EHD and how is it connected?

Extended ( journaled ) format and it is always connected via USB port.

Thanks for the answer, but when I tried to choose Photos Library.photoslibrary from the Seagate BUP, it is greyed-out and cannot be selected.

I am using the latest version of Photos which includes my iPhoto library . I don't know which version it was. The 9.6.1 version of iPhoto on this computer doesn't have any photos in it.

Just to clarify, does this involve iPhoto in some way? Of so, what version?

Only in that the old iPhoto files were saved "inside" the new Photos. I can't tell you which version it was. This computer has 9.6.1 but it is unused - empty.
